While watching the game the other night I saw Delonte West on the sideline giving his teammates encouragement as they walked off the court. Of course I was hoping Delonte would be back with the team by the start of the regular season, but something about seeing him, in the arena in street clothes, made it all the more real for me.

The Cavs need Delonte West. Delonte West needs to play basketball. Seems like a perfect match, but I understand why he’s yet to suit up for the Cavs. The team needs to be sure he’s ready to play night in and night out with no let downs or absences from team functions. Having said this, I hope he returns sooner rather than later.

Delonte brings a lot of things to the organization. He’s a very good player who can create his own shot, which is something the Cavs need desperately right now. He also brings a toughness to the team that we seem to be lacking this year. He can penetrate and open things up for some of our shooters and punish teams that double team Shaq and LeBron.

I know that basketball comes second to real life and I hope Delonte is on the road to recovery. Having said that, I know he wants to get back on the court and I can’t wait to see him suit up for the Cavs. And no one has more classic quotes than Delonte!
