No PG? No problem, we’ve got LeBron

Cut Andy, cmon Im about to travel here, ANDY CUT!!!!

"Cut Andy, c'mon I'm about to travel here, ANDY CUT!!!!"

So the Cavs are down a couple guards and they’re depending on Boobie Gibson, who is arguably not one of the top five ball handlers on this own team, to bring the ball down the court. You’re a bit worried, but you have faith in the Cavs as a team. Then you start to be honest with yourself, you have LeBron James on your team so you have no worries.

In my mind LeBron has always been more like Magic Johnson than Michael Jordan. Tonight against the Grizzlies some Magic showed through as LeBron had 15 assists. No the Cavs aren’t the Showtime Lakers, but they are a team with plenty of talented players supporting LeBron.

The King has a knack for finding open teammates and adjusting his own game to make them more successful. Soon we’ll have Delonte back and then Mo will return, enabling LeBron to move back into his usual role on the team. For now, he’ll play point forward and dish out dimes to open teammates. If you’re a Cavs fan you have to love the versatility and willingness of our superstar. The only question is, God forbid Shaq goes down, will LeBron play the 5 for us?

Coby Karl update!

Something you don't see everyday, Coby with the ball in his hands IN THE GAME!

Something you don't see everyday, Coby with the ball in his hands IN THE GAME!

I know many of you were bummed when Coby Karl was released by the Cavs. You were thinking something like, “Could we have somehow kept this guy and just let him fly under the radar? Would the NBA really notice if we just kept an extra guy and paid him under the table?” Unfortunately we didn’t want to jeopardize the season for Coby Karl, I just don’t get it.

But don’t worry Coby has landed on his feet in Golden State. He signed a ten day contract with the Warriors after balling out in the D League. After leaving Cleveland, The White Mamba averaged 27.2 points, 7.8 boards, and 4.2 dimes for the Idaho Stampede. Anyone who thought Coby was only good for exchanging awkward high fives with fellow Cavs was wrong indeed!

Coby had six points and six assists in his first game with the Warriors. He clocked 24 minutes in the game, which is great considering he was getting 1.7 minutes a game as a Cavalier. Although it hurts to say goodbye, I’m happy to see Coby getting it done on the court.

You know what’s coming tomorrow right? Yep, Coby Karl awkward high five and general I look out of place reel!

Jim and Bill weigh in on The Summer of LeBron

Listen to me LeBron, I beat up aliens for Gods sake

Listen to me LeBron, I beat up aliens for God's sake

Jim Brown was on hand for the Cavs game against the Raptors yesterday and he took the opportunity to speak on LeBron’s future. “Looking at the fact that it is a business, I put that first, but having said that, I would love to see him be here,” Brown said. He continued to express his hope that LeBron would stay as he went on to say, “I think it’s a terrific marriage. He does so much for this city and I think he has an owner that tries to do everything he can. When you have a owner who is trying to do the best he can do and a player, it’s a terrific set of circumstances”

It’s great to hear Jim Brown, a man who spent his entire NFL career in Cleveland, hoping that LeBron will stay with the Cavs. I believe LeBron’s sense of history will at least make him appreciate Jim Brown’s opinion, if not take it to heart.

The next person to share their opinion about LeBron was none other than Bill Simmons, The Sports Guy himself. After LeBron’s trip to LA, Bill who is a huge Clippers fan, shared his thoughts on LeBron. “There is no better teammate. And after watching this point get hammered home for three hours, it suddenly seemed far-fetched that LeBron James would willingly walk away from his guys — and his fans, and his city, and his legacy in Cleveland — just to play for someone else.”

Keep in mind that Simmons has been building a strong case for LeBron to leave Cleveland for the Clippers for quite some time now. After watching LeBron in person, he sees what all of Cleveland has seen for years…he belongs with us!

If you have some time check out Bill’s column about LeBron’s trip to LA, it’s a great read.

Step Carefully Troy Murphy….

I dont feel like you really wanted this board Troy

I don't feel like you really wanted this board Troy

Lately the Cavs have been dodging bullets when it comes to possible trade options. First the Cavs show interest in Anthony Randolph and he’s sidelined for two months with an ankle injury. Next there are rumors about Michael Redd returning to Ohio and he’s now had a season, and possibly career ending, knee injury.

With Randolph hurt our next trade target is Troy Murphy. Troy has had a bunch of bumps and bruises throughout his career but only one major injury (right foot/ankle in the 03-04 season). Having said that, lace those ankle braces up tight Troy, you could be next. Believe me I don’t want to see anyone else fall victim to the Cavs reign of terror. So I’m warning you right now Troy, be careful out there.

I felt it was only right to warn Troy, but I don’t feel like he’s the missing piece to the championship puzzle. I would much rather see Antawn Jamison come to the Cavaliers. He’s a very steady player with a good attitude. He may be a defensive liability at times, but he makes up for that weakness with his ability to shoot the long ball and play inside. He would fit perfectly on the Cavs, but there’s still the issue of who Cleveland would have to give up in exchange for his services.

I hope that Cleveland makes a move that improves the team before the trade deadline. We made a huge mistake last year by not using our expiring contracts to our advantage. I’m praying we don’t make similar mistakes this year.

And if you’re wondering why I’m not worried about Antawn, he’s already dodged enough bullets in the locker room this season. He’ll be just fine.

This quick comparison that I’ve just made has nothing to do with this post, but I found the picture of Dunleavy while searching for a Troy Murphy pic. Is it just me or is that straight out of Avatar?

Apparently Dunleavy auditioned for Avatar late one night...

Numbers Don’t - This is a newer blog that’s associated with Real Cavs Fans. They have lots of great Cavs related posts and a very clean site design. They also look like fortune tellers as they predicted tonight’s 40 point outburst by LeBron!

Waiting For Next Year - This site covers all Cleveland sports and they have been nice enough to feature several of our posts on their site. It only seems right to feature them on our site. Check them out, they have great posts and insights on everything Cleveland sports related.

Noooooo…..

I will not remove him from our power rankings!

The worst has happened. Coby Karl has been officially waived by the Cavs according to Brian Windhorst. He may be gone, but he won’t be forgotten. We promise…

Trade Rumors

You can avoid more of these moments if you come to Cleveland

You can avoid more of these moments if you come to Cleveland

Michael Redd - There are pros and cons when discussing Michael Redd coming to Cleveland. The obvious cons are his health and his contract. Redd has suffered some serious injuries throughout his career, but he’s shown willingness to work hard and bounce back. His contract is for 17 million this season and 18 million next season, which is very steep. The pros are his ability to create his own shot and his great three point shooting. He’s an Ohio guy and even though he passed on us some time ago, I wouldn’t mind Mike Redd in wine and gold.

Rafer Alson - I’m happy that we didn’t pick up Rafer Alston. Okay, okay we all love Skip To My Lou back in the day, but I’m still not sold on him as a pro. He’s too streaky and he doesn’t offer us anything that we don’t already have. Enjoy Miami, although I feel bad for Chris Quinn. He’s another Ohio guy and he’s been shipped off to New Jersey, unfortunate.

Antawn Jamison - The fact that the Wizards don’t want to make the Cavs better might hurt us when we try to get Jamison, but we can always hope they are desperate enough to deal with us. He would be a perfect fit for the Cavs.

Troy Murphy - No thank you.

Mike Lupica still thinks New York is a good fit

Im guessing these guys dont visit NoYork.com very often

I'm guessing these guys don't visit NoYork.com very often

In Mike Lupica’s recent article, he explained why LeBron James will end up in New York next year. Just when you thought the LeBron to the Knicks talk had cooled off this article shows up. Lupica’s rationale included Tiger Woods, the Knicks improved play as of late, and the marketability of New York.

Lupica quotes a source, according to him a sports mogul-type, who says that Nike wants LeBron in New York more than ever after Tiger Woods’ recent fall from grace. There’s going to be a void at the top of Nike’s promotional empire and who better to fill that void than LeBron James. And of course, what better place to promote yourself and Nike than New York?

The next piece of evidence points to the Knicks recent “improvement.” Okay, so the Knicks aren’t as horrible as they were at the start of the season, but they’re certainly not a contender at this point. They might not even make the playoffs this season. If the grass is greener in New York it’s not because of the Knicks’ current roster.

The source also suggested that LeBron will take less money to play in New York because he’ll make the money back being in such a large market. In today’s internet world, I don’t see LeBron making that much more money from playing in New York. He’s as accessible in Cleveland as he is any where else in the NBA in my opinion.

Unfortunately the LeBron to New York talk won’t die until LeBron signs his next contract. This article provides no new evidence that LeBron will go to New York, although the Tiger Woods tidbit is interesting. For now, LeBron needs to stay focused on Cleveland and bringing a title to his hometown team!
