You think this franchise has a better future with LeBron James than me?

The Clippers released their coach/general manager Mike Dunleavy yesterday and according to several “sources” it may have something to do with LeBron James. While the Clippers made several cap clearing moves before the deadline, they may have made another power move in preparation the upcoming summer of LeBron. While some point to the Clippers poor performance over Dunleavy’s seven years with the team, others point to the timing of the move. The thought is that the Clippers will offer LeBron creative control for lack of a better term (seriously what’s the word for “Hey LeBron pick your coach and general manager”).

If the Clippers are really offering LeBron the chance to pick his own coach and general manager it’s a desperate attempt at luring one of the most influential free agents the NBA has ever seen. How many teams geared their moves towards LeBron over the past two years? Every day there’s a new conspiracy theory on where LeBron will end up. This is the latest and perhaps greatest to date in my opinion.

In other news Mike D’Antoni has filed paperwork to have the name of 23rd street in Manhattan changed to 6th street in honor of LeBron James changing his number to honor Michael Jordan. When asked if it would be problematic having two sixth streets in New York D’Antoni replied, “The confusion that would come with two sixth streets would be worth having one LeBron James.” It seems everyone is preparing for the summer of 2010 in their own way.

NoYork at Cleveland’s Got Sole Event

As we eluded to in an earlier post, NoYork will be selling shirts at the Cleveland's Got Sole Event on April 10th. Here is a promotional video for the event. The show is for a great cause as all proceeds from the show will go to the LeBron James Family Foundation. If you're a sneakerhead be sure to show up to this event, which will be held at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Beachwood, Ohio.

"Who wants to buy some DVDs?"

Say hello to our first NoYork.com exclusive! This piece of paper was found in a Washington DC airport. It’s only speculation of course, but we believe this is Big Z’s itinerary for his trip to Washington. We’ve taken the time to piece together the puzzle of Z’s short visit and here’s what we’ve found…

- Execute DVD Plan As soon as Z stepped off the plane he started getting the feel of the local DVD market. Big Z checked out local DVD hotspots and recruited young, ambitious, business minded high schoolers to set up DVD stands on every corner. Then he personally visited every barber shop in the DC area selling his DVDs.

- Physical Next up Z breezed through his physical. As his rehabilitated feet were examined he sent text messages to all of his new employees, motivating them to sell as many DVDs as possible in the next couple hours.

- Meet with Grunfeld Z was twenty minutes late to meet with Ernie Grunfeld. He ran into Grunfeld’s office huffing and puffing with the pockets of his hoodie bulging. Before Grunfeld had a chance to speak Z started pulling wads of cash from his pockets and piled it on Ernie’s desk. When he was done Grunfeld could barely see the 7′3 man over the pile of money. “It’s all there, 1.5 Million.” Grunfeld looked up at Z puzzled, wondering how he got the money. Z smiled and said, “DC loves them some DVDs.”

Z turned to walk out and Grunfeld told him he’d have to stay for a couple days. Angered by the comment Z spun around and pulled out two cap guns. “Get me back to Cleveland Grunfeld,” Z snarled as he pointed the orange tipped guns at the startled man. With that Z placed the toy guns back in his pockets and walked out of office and started dialing a familiar number.

- Call Agent The conversation went something like this…
“I need out of this town”
“I know big fella, we’ll get you back in Cleveland”
“Tell the media that I’m thinking of going to the Nuggets,” laughter on both ends.
“You’d need to get some ink if you went there”
“Just make sure to get me back to Cleveland,” Z said as he contemplated a Chosen 11 tat on his back.

- Call Nike The next order of business was the MVP puppet commercial that Z had recently been featured in. As a Nike representative picked up Z asked if his barber shop commercial would be picked back up when oops if I go back to the Cavs?

- Take Care of Wizards Gear As Z was being reassured that his commercial would air if he went back to Cleveland, he opened the door to his hotel room. He grabbed the two large duffel bags of Wizards gear he had received earlier in the day and took them into the bathroom. He rummaged through both bags until he found his #97 jersey that he requested to signify his first year in the League. He took the home and away jerseys and burnt them in the hotel bathtub. The sight of his name on a Washington jersey brought a tear to his eye.

- Fly Home As Z’s taxi moved towards the airport he asked the driver to pull over multiple times throughout the city. Z distributed the rest of his gear to the young entrepreneurs that helped him raise the money to pay for his buyout. With that Z left behind a day of bad memories and in his wake a slew of baggy clothed kids.

WELCOME HOME Z! Can’t wait for the 21st!

The internet, what a wonderful place

As our blog has gone through different stages of growth we’ve been exposed to the power and wackiness of the internet. From spam to other team’s fans, it’s all been quite amusing. Here are some things we’ve witnessed along the way…

First off, out of 931 comments on NoYork.com 873 have been spam. I guess it’s good that the spammers care enough about us to send us multiple comments on a daily basis, but it does get a bit old weeding through the garbage to find quotes from living breathing human beings. Thanks to all of you who have taken the time to comment on our page.

Speaking of comments I would like to showcase one of my favorites so far. This comment was submitted to us by a Knicks fan named “Roy.”

- As a Knicks fan, i will soon be enjoying these type of highlights on a nightly basis. Thanks for the preview of things to come for the Knickerbockers. Quick question, what will happen to this site when LeBron signs with New York? Just out of curiosity. And those t-shirts will turn lame as well, oh well.

I thought it would be nice to answer Roy’s questions. First off, as a Knicks fan you do enjoy highlights on a nightly basis, perhaps with this summer’s free agent crop you’ll see actual Knicks highlights next year. Secondly, I’m not sure what will happen to this website after LeBron makes his decision, we’ll keep you posted though. Lastly, we think the tee shirts will always be cool because, well because we designed them.

Next up we’ll go to an email that we recently received from a guy we’ll call “Liddel McGrady.” Liddel (we’ve been pronouncing it Lie-Dell, even though we assume he meant Little) emailed us yesterday with a new concept and a fresh take on LeBron’s free agency. Here are a couple of his emails combined into one free flowing thought from the mind of Liddel McGrady.

- Watch out for the new “YesYork” Brand. We all know LeBron is a Knick come this summer, why deny it? Accept it, silly cavs fan.

Let me ask you a hypothetical question. Lets say you are the greatest basketball player in the league; which team gives you the better chance at a championship? The Cavs - a bunch of hasbeens and nobodies as role players, Milwaukee Buck’s former BACKUP point guard, 37 year old Shaq on his last legs, Jamison (the only bright spot) a PF who plays NO defense whatsoever, on top of all that - NO CAP SPACE to bring in another superstar.

Or

The Knicks- great young talent in Gallo, Chandler, all-star in David Lee, cap space to bring in a Wade/Bosh, greatest city on earth, worlds most famous arena, one of the most likeable player coaches in the league, great GM who never disappoints, Tracy McGrady and Al Harrington both offering to resign for less money.

Which is the logical choice?

I’m interested to see the type of blasphemy you write over LeBron staying in the slums of Cleveland and all the other wishful things that wasteland of a state is hoping for.

YESYork indeed.

I guess it’s good when your site gets it’s first official hater. I love the idea of YesYork. I assumed that NoYork was more of a play on words about not signing with the Knicks, but I guess YesYork works too. I do hope that Liddel has the time to write us back in the future.

Next up we’d like to thank Ohio.com for almost linking our video of LeBron’s ridiculous alley oop the other day. They did sort of link our video but instead of using our YouTube account’s video they used YouTube user Miamiheat3x’s version which is ours copied (NoYork slates and all) and uploaded as his own. This happens a lot in the YouTube world as I’ve seen my LeBron mixes re-uploaded by people in the past. On LeBron’s latest dunk alone our video was uploaded by YouTube users Miamiheat3x, Arrieta13easo, InTheCityDJ, AllureJay, swirek999, rindews, uteevsports, and of course us NoYork23.

Just when we had started to focus on all the things that could be perceived as negative situations spawned by the internet, we had a breakthrough moment. No it wasn’t the recent increase in traffic to our site. It wasn’t the upcoming interview with RealGM.com either. What really let us know that we had made it was Twitter. Yesterday we got a new follower that let us know we had made it to the top of the internet mountain. So here’s to you Twitter user “RealWebWhores” thanks for following us and making our day!

Leon Powe’s first basket for the Cavs

Here’s Leon Powe’s first basket as a Cavalier. Through four games Leon has been a solid contributor averaging 4.3 points and 3.3 rebounds in 14 minutes per contest. Powe was a great acquisition in my opinion. He’s a very solid role player who will come in handy during the playoffs. It’s tough coming off an injury but I have faith that Leon will be one of the small pieces that make championship teams complete.

Here are some of Antawn’s early Cavs highlights. I didn’t know he had that dunk in him, but I’m glad to see him coming out strong.

There are some people who were upset that we didn’t pick up Stoudemire. Yeah he would have been great, but he would have definitely cost us JJ. Instead we get an all star caliber player in exchange for a late first round draft pick. This was a steal of a deal!

Here’s a couple things I’ve had on my mind lately

- Positive Take on Shaq’s Injury.  ESPN’s John Hollinger wrote an article recently about Shaq’s injury that highlighted the “silver lining” of this untimely surgery. “By the time we get to mid-May and Cleveland has to face Orlando and/or the Lakers — the two teams Shaq was brought in to match up against — the Cavs should have a healthy Shaq. What’s more, they should have a rested Shaq. The big fella had missed only five games this season before the hand injury and was on track to play his most games in a decade; the two-month break should allow all his other sore limbs to heal before the games that matter most.” I like to think positively so I’m going to roll with Hollinger’s silver lining theory on this one.

-RealGM shout out to NoYork.  The good folks at RealGM.com took the time to link our post of LeBron’s insane alley oop from last night’s game against New York. Thanks for taking the time to shout us out and to all of our readers check out RealGM if you’re not already a fan.

- Cleveland’s Got Sole.  Cleveland’s Got Sole is a non-profit event that will showcase sneaker collections from across the country and highlight clothing companies from around the Cleveland area. NoYork is proud to say that we will have a table at this event on Saturday April 10th at Embassy Suites in Beachwood. We will give more information about this event in the upcoming weeks. Should be a great show and a chance to pick up some nice gear, including NoYork tees!

A new article from the NY Daily News’ Mitch Lawrence gives reasons that the Nets, Clippers, and Heat are out of this summer’s LeBron lottery. He also goes on to explain what teams still have a shot at LeBron. Any surprise that he thinks the Knicks have one of the best situations for attracting LeBron?

Lawrence reasons that LeBron would not want to play second fiddle in Kobe’s town so the Clippers are out of the running. Next he shoots down the Nets dreams because they will most likely be playing in Newark for somewhere between 2 and 4 years while the Atlantic Yards project is set into motion. Finally the Heat won’t be getting LeBron because both Wade and James need to dominate the ball. These thoughts all seem reasonable, besides the fact that Wade and James would probably love to be on the same team and LeBron is a very unselfish player. Something tells me they could make it work…

On to the teams that Lawrence believes might still have a chance at LeBron. First up the Chicago Bulls freed up some cap space for LeBron and possibly Bosh this summer. They have a solid core and the big city lights of Chicago fits LeBron’s rumored need for a bigger market. Lawrence then directs his attention to the Knicks who gambled everything on the LeBron lottery. He claims that they are the only team with a chance to get LeBron and Bosh, although I’ve heard Miami and Chicago could sign more than one free agent.

Lawrence strenghtens his argument with a quote from LeBron about playing with Bosh. During All-Star Weekend LeBron had this to say, “Being around him last summer (in the Olympics), I got to see how smart he is. His basketball I.Q. is unbelievable. He’s a very, very good player. Sometimes you look at him and you say, “He’s not that strong or he’s not the fastest guy out there.’ But the way he approaches the game … his mindset really helps him dominate a basketball game.”

In the end we’ll see where LeBron goes, but it’s funny that the Knicks have started to rule out other teams from the LeBron sweepstakes. While the Knicks cleared a ton of cap space they gave away a lot of talent to do so. Until LeBron signs a new contract with the Cavs I’ll be thinking NoYork!!!
